The Monk who sold his Ferrari - Review.

It has been a really long time since I read something for pleasure. " The Monk who sold his Ferrari". I know it is quite a late discovery ( Citation: Pavithra Anantharaman) considering it has been three years since publication and there a million and half to be precise who have read before me .

Do not judge a book by its cover - How true!. I did not have the slightest idea about Robin Sharma and considering it was suggested by pavithra , I probably thought it was a novel and proved wrong on what a motivation book it turned out to be.

This Book is not for you -
If you are not very enthusiastic about the philosophies of life being preached upon your ears.

Nutshell:

It was on the lines of books like 'Magic of Thinking Big '. The book is a narration of a fable through which the author brings about all the ingredients for a happy ,meaningful life . The author starts with the story of two litigators . One of whom Julian Mantle drowned in the earth's materialism ,any typical humans needs -money,greed breaks down in his professional and personal life and decides he could not take any more of this .Hence our buddha of the story renounces his possesions ( his "Ferrari " + all his other possesions) and travels to East, and from Sages of Shivana, he learns precious jewels of wisdom and comes back to spread his drop of knowledge to his friend in the west .

All that i liked :

  • The author knew how to put his points across in a way readers would read which differentiated the book from its genre of books like our (" Tamizh commercial movie with a karuthu ;))

  • His picture mnemonics (the fable) was very good idea to make the readers chew and swallow what they read.

  • I loved his concepts on

- Mind as a garden
- Heart of Rose
- Secret Lake
- 21 Day rule
- Goal setting ritual
- Ritual of reflection
-Ritual of Nourishment (whatever was the ritual connected to what we eat)
- Theory of Oppositon Thinking

  • All the above mentioned ones were absolutely practical and definitely fruitful.

Critics may say:

The book is something which we already know . Though I dont deny the "Opposition Thinking " was nothing different from our friends advice on " yen athayey potu kolipikra nalladha nenai" ,mom's advice on "kandatha sapdatha "- 'Ritual of Nourishment' . But for of all them i like to point out what Robin said " Books teach us nothing new "- it just brings out in us what we probably have forgotten .

Things that went into my statuses and diary:

# Never regret the past ,embrace it for the great teacher that it is.

# Learn to say No to people - Ishwarya Murali, really arent you kinda born intelligent :P # reminisces of you advice to me on my OT 's i did ! ??

# Live the day as your last - ( I have definitely had little Robin in me before :P)

# Worries just drain your mind, replace them with joyous thoughts.

# I should definitely gift this book to my parents.

What it made for me:

Helped me revive all the thing that i have forgotten lately (thanks to FB , work)

- I definitely should eat ' keerai ':( [Moderation], paavakai [ No !Extreme]
- See what happened to my Blogosphere.
- Should i deactivate my Fb for a while (Probably not, No extremes 'Moderation:P)
- Definitely been long since i painted.
- Try to wake up by 7 everyday ! sigh!

Tip : Speed read the book and focus on all the quotes and morals of the sub-stories :) Make a note of them and implement in 'moderation' :)lets see how it works for you after 21 days :)

Last sem n first blog!!

BLOGGING!!well, how did this happen..Am totally a night person, and with no classes in the final semester ma usual time to hit the bed was 4 / 5 Am...As all were early sleepers at ma home i spent time watching HIMYM , FRIENDS ,HEROES etc at late nites.. there were times even this could bore me , so that is when i started reading my classmates blogs, updates n used to critic them.. Den i wanted to take a shot at it, but i had one thing in ma mind not to drone anyone with the crap am doing, 'Who is interested in what others do'??.and so i wanted to write something without getting branded as "mokkai".So here is ma maiden attempt in blogging about my final semester.

I was among the chosen few who stayed in college for project. The reasons being wanted to be the final sem with my friends who all stayed back and veetu sapadu.I had been placed in Cognizant , managed to get a 8.21 GPA and life was smooth for me till that one phone call..
It was from my uncle Anantha narayan from San jose,CA. He was the only engineer in my family apart from me( not very keen in calling myself one though) and my guide. He and my parents were not very keen on me joining Cognizant as it was sure the company wont call me in less than a years time.I wanted to work for two years time and may be later think of studying. The reason being i was more keen in media, sound recording, desining and such creative things than engineering .And two years time in a metropolitan city will give me a better chance to pursue it.For the first time that night after the phone call i told my family my wish. But coming from a conservative coimbatore family the answer was a complete NO 'How can u even think of it'?

So gave up my idea.In two months time i took GRE, shutting myself in room and swotting again.. I took my TOEFL, applied few universities ... I was relieved and had lot of time for my friends again.I went 4 times in two months to one among my favourite places chennai:)Shruthi was an excellant host .. Loved puppy athamas place. Took part in Neeya naana .. luckily Ravishankar was there :) Had great time with him after so long time..

With all late nite movies n tv shows , projects wid reva ,hangout with friends, Sis wedding, staying back in coimbatore was not a bad idea after all:)

I did not do what i wanted to do. But am happy that my people are happy. And i will always do whatever i can to make them so..:)Find joy in whatever u are assigned to do..LIVE LIFE KINGS SIZE!!:):)
